STEP 1    Gather Materials

  • RULON Sax Bow Patch and cleaning wipes (provided)
  • Small flat head screwdriver for removing the low Eb and C keys
  • Paper Towels
  • Clean table with good lighting to do this work

STEP 2    Attach the RULON Saxophone Bow Patch

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Lay your alto or tenor saxophone on a flat stable surface with good lighting (This product is not intended to fit soprano or bari saxophones).
  2. Unscrew and remove the Low Eb and C keys and place them safely to the side.
    ⚠️ Caution: Keep your holding hand away from the screwdriver tip so your hand cannot be hit if the screwdriver slips. Make music, not medical bills!
    ⚠️ Caution: If the screws are difficult to remove by hand, take your sax and all parts of this kit to a qualified repair shop. We offer a list of quality music stores near you.
    Unscrew the low C and Eb keys of your saxophoneSet aside the keys for later
  3. PRO TIP: If your Eb pad is more dirty and aged than your Low C pad, consider using Key Leaves saxophone key props to air dry the Eb, C#, and G# pads after play. Rulon Brown invented them to keep the sax clean and stick free.

  4. Use the cleaning wipes provided to reach into the Low C tone hole and clean the top inside of the sax bow.

  5. Clean the tone hole edges of Low C and Low Eb. This helps remove brass corrosion on the tone hole edge and extend pad life!

  6. Holding your RULON Sax Bow Patch, locate the round backer adhesive and remove the white backing paper.

  7. Slide the RULON Bow patch into the sax bell so it rests at the sax bow bottom.

  8. Place the sax in front of you with keys facing up and the neck socket pointing to you and the bow pointing away from you.

    BEFORE GOING ON: See photo below and notice that once the patch is installed, the RULON logo should face the Eb tone hole opening. This is by design to orient adhesive so moisture inside the sax drains well.

  9. Insert your right-hand pointer finger through the Eb tone hole, and then insert your left-hand point finger through the C tone hole.

  10. Use your finger tips to to feel the embossed RULON logo and rotate the patch so the RULON logo faces the Eb tone hole opening.

  11. Gently press the RULON Bow Patch up against the top of the bow until it nests into position.
    ⚠️  Caution! Do not press with great force or you may dent or bend your sax.
    Gently press the patch.

  12. Press the patch gently for 30 seconds to help set the adhesive.

  13. Reattach the Low Eb and C keys. 
    Screw the keys back onto your saxophone
  14. Reattach the needle springs to provide spring tension so the low C key is held open and the low Eb key is held closed. 
    Put the needle springs back into place.

STEP 3   Rock out on your low sax notes!
