RULON Saxophone Bow Patch (Alto/Tenor/Bari)

Ever feel like the low end of your saxophone is unfocused or hard to play? It may be the sax bow. The RULON Saxophone Bow Patch decreases the spatial volume of an alto, tenor, or baritone saxophone bow to fix unstable tone wobble, improve tuning, and make low notes easier to play.

The RULON Saxophone Bow Patch is easy to install within minutes and the patent-pending device is made of flexible rubber with waterproof adhesive to safely attach it to the sax bow, helping you:

• Tune and focus saxophone pitch near the bow notes (Low D through C).
• Play low sax notes with more ease and control.
• Fix unstable wobble/burble tones in low sax notes (Low D through Bb)- a concern for some Selmer® Mark VI saxophones and modern saxes.
• Correct volume mismatch between mouthpiece and saxophone body, common with modern mouthpieces used on vintage saxes.

Rulon Brown crafted and tested many different patch shapes, sizes, and materials before finding his "just right" sized rubber patch that helps improve both alto and tenor sax low tones. He then crafted a special baritone sax size.

Selmer® experimented with decreasing space inside the sax bow to improve tone during the Mark VI years. They soldered brass patches into some of the bows to improve tuning, fix unstable tone wobble, and help low notes speak. Saxophone bow troubles are still common in modern saxes. Soldering a brass patch into your saxophone bow would be an expensive custom repair that is sure to burn sax lacquer and require significant cosmetic repairs. Keep things simple. Improve your low saxophone notes with a RULON Saxophone Bow Patch. It’s easy to install and helps you play sax without hesitant, burbling low notes!

Master repair tech, Matthew Stohrer, discussed saxophone bow patches and body tube volume concerns, stating: "Late Mark VI altos with the patch inside the bow also happen to be what I think are some of the best playing Mark VI altos... The late VI altos with the patch in the bow... are in my opinion excellent, excellent players. They're very well in tune, they've got a very warm huge powerful voice, and are a lot of fun to play."
