How to Use the RULON Saxophone Key Riser for High F#
⚠️ WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD
Small parts—Not for Children under 6 yrs old. Buyer and user assume all risk of use of this product.
- Locate all parts of your key riser kit including:
*1 Key Riser
*3 Spacers
*1 Rounded Spacer (optional for use with rounded keys)
*2 Large Rubber O-rings
*2 Small Rubber O-rings
- Notice the height options available.
- Begin by adding one spacer to the bottom of the riser.
NOTE: If your saxophone has a rounded F# key rather than a flat (see image below)\, use the rounded spacer to contact the rounded key.
- Take one of the small rubber o-rings, stretch and press it into the sloth at one end of the riser.
- If you have any concern about possible micro scratches to your High F# key, place a small piece of masking tape, painters tape, or washi tape on the flat bottom.
- Place the next small rubber o-ring over the right side of the High F# key, as shown below.
- Place the rubber ring attached to the riser over the left side of the High F# key, as shown below.
- Gently push the riser toward the right through the right o-ring, as shown below.
- Continue until the right o-ring sets into to the left slot of the riser, as shown below.
Here is video demo of these prior steps.
- Test play the riser by dropping the middle of your finger to press the High F# (rather than the tip of your finger as previously done). See how your hand feels and keep experimenting for at least a few minutes.
ADVANCED PLAYERS: Try fork finger shifts. For example, High F# (Octave, Left Hand Front F, plus C with middle finger, High F# key) moving to a Altissimo High G# (Octave, 1+3, 1+3, Side C).
- If the riser feels too tall, remove the riser and remove the spacer. Then replace the riser using the small o-rings as shown previously.
- If the riser feels too short, remove the riser and add another spacer or two, then use the large o-rings to replace the riser. Watch video demo with larger o-rings.
- After several weeks of intense use with your plastic version, you should have a good idea what height works best for you.
- Consider ordering a solid metal gold plated version that adhesives to the sax key and matches your preferred riser height (7mm with no spacer, 10mm with one spacer, 13mm with two spacer, or 16mm with three spacer).
