- Kateřina Pavlíková (Czech Saxophone Virtuoso, Bohemia Saxophone Quartet)

Kateřina Pavlíková is an established and prominent saxophonist in the Czech Republic. Her musical activities are wide-ranging, but she is most recognized for her work in presenting the baritone saxophone as a concert instrument. Pavlíková collaborates with leading Czech symphonic and chamber ensembles; she has performed as a soloist with the Prague Philharmonia, Brno Philharmonic, Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra, South Czech Philharmonic, The Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra, Czech Sinfonietta, Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra and others.

Pavlíková has been a member of the Bohemia Saxophone Quartet since 1999. This leading Czech group has become renowned for their highly sonorous and refined sound. Their broad multi-genre repertoire includes classical and jazz styles, as well as contemporary music mostly dedicated directly to the ensemble by the  composer. The BSQ also performs many transcriptions and arrangements, most of which were arranged by Kateřina herself.

Pavlíková has released a solo album Dive (2020) with music for baritone saxophone and electronics by Danish composer Wayne Siegel and an album by the Tilia Trio with music by J.S. Bach, A. Dvořák and D. Milhaud (2020). She has recorded three CD albums with the Bohemia Saxophone Quartet: Emotions (2019), History of Jazz (2009) and Saxcriptions  (2005), as well as participating in the CD Homage to Jaroslav Ježek with the Rudolfinum Jazz Orchestra (2006), Jazz at Prague Castle with the Štěpán Markovič Saxtet (2006), Just Floating Lightly with the Petr Kořínek Jazz Orchestra (2004) and in many other recordings produced for Czech Radio.

During the COVID-19 pandemic Kateřina produced about 30 music videos in which she played alone or with other musicians. The most important international musical collaboration has been with American saxophonist Dave Camwell, which has resulted in virtuosic new editions of well-known and popular classical works to great acclaim.

An important part of her musical work is the interpretation of contemporary music. Pavlíková’s collaborations with Czech and foreign composers have resulted in several new compositions for baritone saxophone, all dedicated to her. As an avid proponent of musical technology, her repertoire also consists of compositions for saxophone and electronics. Additionally, she has personally contributed to the enrichment of saxophone repertoire with her transcriptions of famous classical and modern compositions for various ensembles.

On top of her performance work, Kateřina Pavlíková is also intensively involved in teaching. She teaches saxophone at the Conservatory in České Budějovice and at the Music and Art School in Volary. Her students have enjoyed considerable success in many national and international competitions for solo and chamber music. Together with her best students she created the SaxWork Ensemble, which performs regularly on national and international stages. She also leads seminars and masterclasses in the Czech Republic and abroad  (Bratislava 2020, Kranjska Gora 2019, Bled 2019, Paris 2010, Oslo 2009, Lviv 2005, Madona 2004).
